"Net Zero" in Action

So, what exactly is 'Net Zero'?" Net Zero represents the critical concept of achieving a balance between the levels of greenhouse gas emissions released into the atmosphere and those removed from it. Specifically, it involves phasing out the burning of fossil fuels and transitioning to renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. This transition is crucial in addressing the urgent issue of climate change, prompting global action from influential entities. At the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in November 2021, over 130 countries committed to or expressed serious consideration of achieving Net Zero emissions. Additionally, more than 20% of the world's largest companies, including tech giants like Apple and Microsoft, as well as automotive leader Ford, have pledged to this ambitious goal.

Beyond these global initiatives, numerous local institutions have also taken proactive steps. Across the United States, for instance, 7,300 schools have installed solar panels to reduce their carbon footprint.




Episcopal High School, renowned as a leading private boarding school in the US, is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing the Net Zero movement. While commendable efforts have already been undertaken by students and the school community, significant improvements are still needed.



To further progress towards this goal, Mr. Castle and the Net Zero club are exploring plans to install solar panels on the roofs of the new dormitories and the upcoming health center. These initiatives aim not only to reduce the school's environmental impact but also to inspire broader sustainability efforts within the campus and beyond.which allow users to engage with the .
